Training Methods

All relationships take work, patience and commitment, and the relationship with your dog is no different.

However, sometimes our well-meaning approach to problems with our dogs can create confusion, stress and frustration for everyone involved.

I am committed to the well-being of everyone and work with empathy, compassion and understanding towards both the canine and human family members.

I address not only the behaviour that your dog is showing on the outside, but also what emotions and physiological challenges they are experiencing on the inside. By addressing all these aspects, we are more likely to achieve long-lasting results because each one has a profound effect on the others.

My approach is to use fear-free and reinforcement-based techniques together with other methods & products that build connection and a positive relationship with our dogs. By working on mind, body and behaviour as a whole, people and their dogs get to live their best lives together.

Venues

WHERE we train is entirely dependent on WHAT we are training.

At the beginnng of your program we may train at your home or in your garden, or at one of my 2 secure, private training paddocks at Little Dumpledale Farm in Hill Mountain, Pembrokeshire.

Later on we will may hold the session in a park or urban location, or where you normally walk your dog.

The location of your training sessions will be fully discussed with you at your initial assessment.

Online, live Zoom sessions are also available if you live outside of Pembrokeshire.

Dates

Practical sessions take place on:
Summer - weekday afternoons and evenings
Winter - weekday afternoons and Sunday afternoons

After you enrol you will be able to schedule your own training sessions from a selection of dates.

I only ever have a small number of One To One clients to ensure that there are enough sessions available for everyone.

Training sessions may be booked up to 3 months in advance.

"I was really nervous contacting Rachel as I have anxiety, but from the moment I first spoke to her on the phone she put me at ease.

Monty has a lovely nature with me at home, but I just couldn't understand why he turned so horrible when we went out, barking and growling at other dogs and even some people, and it was so upsetting because nothing I tried worked. Monty is my first dog and I just followed advice my friends gave me and videos I saw on the internet. Rachel helped me to understand his behaviour on a deeper level and gave me loads of practical things to do to help him.

In the past I used training methods that I now know were just making things worse, but Rachel was totally unjudgemental and helped me see that his behaviour wasn't my fault and I wasn't a bad owner.

I have learned so much from her, from why he was behaving like this, to how to communicate with him. It has changed the way I see him, and how I see all dogs!

I can honestly say that without her help I would most likely have given up on Monty which would have broken my heart, but I just couldn't go on living like that."
